Client: The Royal British Legion

Requirement: An advertising/ communications campaign to run outside the November Poppy Appeal window

Objectives: To get people to donate to the Royal British Legion beyond the annual Poppy Appeal

Single Minded Propostion: They have done their duty- Now you do yours

We wanted to work off the idea that as people only support the war once a year, to imagine what the world would be like if wars were only fought on one day a year, in this case, November 11th. From this however we developed forward and began thinking about how you can show people war is fought every day a year and how you could hit to the heart of this.

Story-boarding

Window Cleaning

Lyndon Mallet Briefing,

Create a video based on people's body language

For this we never wanted to create body language, we wanted to capture body language because no matter how hard you try to will always miss something or just no get it completely. After all, everyone is different!

The main idea we were driving off was the wind cleaner because they live off people's body language. When your cleaning windows you can only see what is in front of you, you can never hear it.

From this insight we came up with the idea of watching people from the outside and seeing how they react to different scenarios. YOU ARE THE WINDOW-CLEANER.

Dare to be different

Dare Digital- Promoting the new blackberry storm

Work to follow as soon as returned

The idea behind the brief was to create applications that could be marketed from the perspective of the consumer and passed on through users at various points promoting the HD sound/HD picture.

Our main idea was highly rated by the company

Crack- The idea of being able to run your fingers across the screen and cause cracks to appear along the phone who help promote the idea of how the HD picture is so sharp the screen is just cracking. Every outcome would be different and more importantly it turned the idea of a negative thing about phones (screens always cracking) and turned it into a positive.

Etch-A-Sketch- Same principle in the sense it allows for touch and encourages it. Was used as a way of showing the clarity of the screen and how everything would still be crystal clear. Shake the phone to start again.

Blackberry Bottles- To promote the idea of HD sound we figured something showing the range of noise was important. Basic blowing on the screen would allow for the sounds of the bottles to be created with an increasing number for every level. We found this to be an original way to place emphasis on the sound range.

Mixer- The idea of your in control and power back in your hands allows you to become the D.J. you can mix your own songs from your file creating blends, samples and even tempo changes allowing for an easy demonstration of both the power and sound functions.

Keyboards- Just another way to show the varying ranges the sound function can offer if you buy this phone. We found it was important to get people listening again and through something like the keyboard you can create an air around a product be it in the middle of the street or at home at night.

Dancing Man- Playing more on the touch idea, trying to encourage the usage, this is something that would run almost parallel to the mixer and keyboard idea. It is a way to encourage using the screen whilst the clarity of the images through the fast pace of the function would help to promote the HD picture.

Blackberry- The final idea was a bit of fun. The idea of being able to 'pop' the different sections of a berry makes an application that is just exclusive to the blackberry storm. An advancement on this concept would be to put the other functions and applications  one behind each cell so to get to them you must pop you way through.

Ambience/ Interactive.

We had many different ideas for directions to take the interactive appeal.

Water-Cooler- Everyone knows in an office, if there are things to be shown, things to be played with, it is going to happen 'around the water cooler' so as a way to promote this we figured create a vodafone water-cooler using red die and create this area where the games were discussed with floating icons and an interactive leader-board encased within the cooler to prevent office cheating!

Underground- We felt that perhaps something where blackberry storm users could feel individual and unique would work on many levels so we thought you could have on the underground a certain carridge that was painted red and only those on blackberry storm could use it, so in other words we were taking away the pain of day to day commuting. In the same instance there would be red kiosks where only those with the phone can use them in conjunction to bar-codes on the phone allowing easy travel through the underground.

We wanted to create a product where there was more demand than supply. We want people to be like, wow, what do i have to do to get one of those'

Leader-boards- The idea of making London a game comes very apparent through the interactive ideas. Leader-boards from blackberry applications would be on the screens as you descend and ascend to and from the underground where you can also upload your own drawing etc. Therefore creating something people can aspire and strive towards. Leader-boards would also be on the inside of the special carridges of the underground, linking in what was shown above.

Events- The final major ideas all tie in together. A rival company use sporting events to promote their product where only if you are on this network can you get into the event and it makes people want to be in there so we propose Blackberry storm run a similar event at gigs and sporting events to once again encourage people to want to have the phone

Queue-Jump- One final idea which would work quite well as a viral. The idea that with a blackberry storm you are a force and have the power to skip the queue. Plays well off the idea that if you can't go over it, why not go round it. In other words finding a solution to a common problem.

Tuesday 11th November

Today was the first day of the enterprise week and so we went up to the Crowne Plaza in Marlow to meet with our sponsors. I decided to take this time to capture some of the layout from the hotel

Wednesday 12th November
Went to support the rugby. Thanks to the amount of work I have been given in the 2nd year i no longer find the time to play the sport i love. The best i can do is try to catch the odd game. Was supposed to be playing today but the work content was too high.

Photography

'Photography is a wonderful discovery. A science that engages the most profound intellects and an art that tests the creative...yet it uses lies within the grasp of the shallowest idiot!'
14 images. A Day In The Life Of...

Monday 3rd November

Monday was spent with the graphics teachers workin
g on words beginning the letters of our towns we either lived in or lived close too. I
chose 'Oakham'. When we had to create a new meaning for the word i deduced, 'Oakham: A thinly sliced wood used to season pork'. This is where the image of a pork roast made of wood came from.

Wednesday 5th November

Wednesday was Bean's birthday party. Here i
decided to capture a few images from the
night of the bonfire and the firework canisters from the night. The f

Thursday 6th November

Today we had a talk with Theo Delaney. I was luck to grab this photo at the end of the lecture in OH2.

Friday 7th November

Friday was spent with the graphics department working on how you can create an object from natural materials. For mine i chose to manipulate the filaments in a bulb to create the word Power. A better word may have been boom to place emphasis on the broken lightbulbs

Saturday 8th November

Sunday 9th November

Jail Break. Today was the day of jailbreak so we got kitted up and headede off down to the union for a 10am start

Monday 10th November

My passport unfortunately never arrived which was a massive blow and meant that i couldn't go jailbreak. Instead i worked from home as 'basecamp' trying to sort my group out, making sure they had something to travel onto including 2 ferries and multiple train times.

OAKHAM. is a type of thinly sliced wood used to season fresh ham

From that a product can be created using real photography and not stock, as well as a 3-D model.

Day 2

Theo Delaney talk

Usefull talk on following a brief through to the end when video media is the subject. Interestingly learnt that no release forms exist for viral videos and so an interesting route for the Panasonic brief. Perhaps a video shot on viral but when viewed through the new panasonic it is clear as day...

Day 3

Vibrandt talk.

Interesting enough, useful in look to the world of branding and creating an image around a name. Much more graphics based but still found interesting. Some good ideas came out of their work for UGLY.

Day 4

Talk on creating text from natural products or waste disposal. I chose 'power' and broke bulbs and then manipulated the filaments so they produced the word. I had intended, if more time than 3 hours, to create the illusion the glass was never broken, the filaments where natural, and then how the bulb would have been represented once turned on. Graphics tutors also pointed towards the idea of the word 'blown' therefore preventing the need to photoshop.
